Ulster Age Groups are finished for another year and we had a fantastic competition! In total 22 swimmers competing sees our biggest attendance at this gala in years!
Friday started with the boys 200 Free, with Michael H and Eoin making the final and Jericho and Michael M both seeing good PB’s in this event as well as the 200 Backstroke. In the girls 100 freestyle Ellie, Emma and Florence all made their age group finals with with good PB’s. Alex qualified for the final in 1st place and managed to win the event and with it her first Ulster Age Group title!
The twins Amy M and Emma faced off again in the 100 breaststroke, this time Emma just got the better of Amy who came very close with a solid PB.
Amy H did well in the 200 back final finishing 9th with a good PB as the only 10 year old in the 11 and under age group final.
The girls 14 and under 4×50 medley relay closed the session in style with a bronze medal.
Saturday started with the girls 200 IM, Ellie, Emma and Alex swam well in the heats to qualify for the final later on. In the boys 100 free Jericho had a good PB but unfortunately just missed out on a final place and Michael H swam a steady heat to get him safely through to the final later.
The girls 400 free followed this and Ellie took a huge chunk off her previous best cutting about 15 seconds off her previous time and finishing 8th.
The penultimate event of the morning heats was the girls 100 back were, Amy H, Florence, Alex and Fionnula all made the final.
Eoin ended the session well with a nice PB in the gruelling 1500 freestyle and a 4th place finish.
Saturdays finals started with the girls 200IM, Ellie and Alex were unable to improve on their morning swims, however Emma was and took almost 2 seconds off for a 8th place finish.
Michael swam an excellent 100 free, leading from start to finish to win his first Ulster Age Group gold!
In the girls 100back, Amy H improved on her morning time to finish 7th in the 9-11 age group. Alex, Florence and Fionnula were part of a fantastic race in the girls 14 year old final with Florence just being touched into 2nd, Alex finishing 4th and Fionnula finishing 8th.
Michael H added to his medal tally with a 3rd place finish in the 100 fly, William also made the final and finished 7th with a good swim.
The relays finished off Saturday. The Junior girls team of Livvy, Zoe, Amy H and Ellie did extremely well to finish 6th in the 4×50 freestyle relay, less than a second behind 3rd in a very close race! The Junior boys team of Michael M, Jericho, Dara and Theo improved on this and surprised everyone with a second place finish!! Well done boys!
On Sunday the boys 400 free saw some more good swimming with Michael M, Dara and Theo all finishing within 1 second of each other and Eoin taking a good chunk of time of his previous best.
Amy H and Alex both qualified for their respective age group finals in the 100 fly.
The boys 100 back saw Michael M, Jericho both qualify for the 9-11 final. Theo swam a massive PB to qualify for the 12 year olds final in 3rd and Michael H also qualified for the 15 year olds final.
Amy M qualified for her first final in the 200 Breast in the 13 year olds age group along with Georgia in the 15-16 age group.
The girls 200 free finished off the last heats session with Ellie, Emma, Alex and Florence all making the final.
The last session was our best of the weekend! The heat of the pool and long days were taking there toll, however there were still some good swims left to come!
Amy H and Alex improved on their 100 butterfly heat swim to finish 7th and 2nd respectively. All of the boys in the 100 back improved on their morning times. Michael M – 4th, Jericho – 8th, Theo – 3rd, Michael H 3rd.
Amy M and Georgia improved on their morning times and seedings to finish 6th and 9th. In the 200 free the Ellie and Emma weren’t quite able to improve on their heat times but swam very well finishing 5th and 6th.
The swim of the meet came in the girls 14 & U freestyle relay! Florence, Fionnula, Emma and Alex shook off the tiredness to swim and awesome relay with some close takeovers that kept us on the edge of our seat! They finished first setting a new Ulster Junior Record in the process! Well done girls!!
In total we won 3 Gold medals, 3 Silver medals, 5 bronze medals and made another 17 finals!
Well done again to everyone involved and thanks to all of our volunteers over the weekend.
