City of Belfast were strongly represented at Sunday’s Swim Ulster final Development Meet of the season in Newry. Congratulations to our debutants from J2 and J3 who produced some outstanding pbs. It can be a little daunting competing at these galas for the first time so special mention to Charlie Agnew and Izem Kazanci from J3 , and to J2 swimmers Mya Kennedy, Ellen McGee, Joe McKay, Zoe McKelvey, Orla Murray, Lizzie Samm, Ella Scott and Emma Snowden who showed great promise for the future with some great swims.

Excellent pbs were also achieved by Caoimhe Cox, Darya Dulseva, Felix Skelton, Luke Gilgunn, Cassie Johnstone, Jane Kane, Laura Kennedy, Zoe Magee, Zoe Martin, Matthew Mawhinney, Cormac McCummiskey, Matthew McKelvey, Luiseagh Murnaghan, Aimee Jackson, Ann Sweetman and Sophia Young

City of Belfast SC had some exceptional results with Dulci Bowden finishing with a 2nd place in the 50m Frontcrawl and a 3rd in the 100m IM. Our 3 new recruits into Development Squad performed very strongly with a 3rd place for Jarleth Meenan in the 100m IM, a 3rd in the 50m Butterfly for Fiontan Murtagh, and two 2nd place finishes for Donncha McGurk in the 100m IM and the 50m Butterfly. Donncha and Fiontan also achieved a Swim Ulster Qualifying time in their 100 IM race.

Not to be outdone, our new recruits into the Age Group squad produced some memorable swims. Lorcan Murnaghan won his 50m Butterfly event and came second in his 200m IM with another SU Qualifying time. Jacob Martin swam superbly to win his 100m Breaststroke in a very fast time of 1:27.81 , which qualified for the National Age Group Division 1 Championships. Jacob also came 2nd in his 200m IM and secured another Swim Ulster Qualifying time.

All our swimmers should be very proud of the achievements- swimmers from all squads showed how their demanding work at training has paid off. Skills practiced in training have transferred to an improvement in times and personal best times for most swimmers and consistency for others. Many congratulations to the many swimmers for whom Newry was their first Gala. They produced great swims and I hope this gives them a taster of things to come.

A big thanks to SU and Newry SC for hosting the event, our coaches Becca and Stephen, parent volunteers without whom these events could not take place, and to Liz Skelton in her role as Gala secretary.
