The 2018 Irish Short Course Championships were a great success for CoB, with 6 individual swimmers and 4 relay teams in action over a 4 day meet. CoB racked up numerous PBs, several final swims, 2 medals and a new Irish Junior Record.

Day 1:

Evan Coulter swam a great 200m IM and 50m Freestyle in the heats this morning, right on his PB in both events, which were set at the Ulster Open Championships 2 weeks ago

Jericho Balgos also had a great morning, setting new PBs in the 100m Backstroke (a massive 2 second PB) and the 50m Freestyle, and displaying great underwater skills while doing so

Livvy McCrea swam a strong 50m Freestyle heat, right on her PB time, before putting in a great relay swim in Day 1’s final session

Elise Smyth also had a fantastic relay swim this evening, reducing her split time further after several fast splits in recent months

Emma Montgomery had an awesome heat swim in the 50m Freestyle in the morning, equaling her recent PB, while experimenting with a new start technique. Emma also swam a strong anchor leg in the Freestyle Relay in the night’s final session, swimming consistently fast times after a great block of training over recent months, and setting a great example for our young CoB swimmers to look up to

Alex McCrea swam a fast 50m Freestyle heat this morning, again, right on her PB, which she then equaled in the A Final, finishing in 5th place overall, before putting in a strong first leg performance in the Freestyle Relay

Michael Hewitt swam a huge 0.4 second PB in the heats of the 50m Freestyle in the morning, which he then equaled in the A Final, placing 6th overall

Day 2:

Livvy McCrea and Emma Montgomery started the day off with PB swims in the 100m Freestyle, while Alex McCrea swam a season best.

Emma and Alex were back in action shortly after for the 50m Butterfly, with Emma swimming close to her recent PB in a fast heat swim, and Alex qualifying for the A Final with a new PB, which she later beat again in the final.

Michael Hewitt qualified for the A Final of the 50m Fly in 3rd position, after securing a place in the B Final of the Men’s 100m Freestyle. Michael touched first in the B Final of the freestyle, almost equaling his PB, before securing a silver medal in the A Final of the Men’s 50m Fly, touching just 0.03 off the Irish Junior Record.

Day 2 finished with CoB touching in 6th place in the Mixed 200m Freestyle Relay.

Day 3:

The 100m Butterfly was the first event of Day 3. Emma and Alex again swam great heat swims, getting very close to their PB times, with Alex qualifying 4th for the A Final. Michael similarly swam a great heat swim to qualify 3rd for the A Final of the Men’s 100m Fly, while Evan Coulter swam a huge 0.4 second PB.

Jericho Balgos finished off the heats session with an impressive 1.6 seconds off his 200m Backstroke PB after such a strong 100m swim on Thursday.

Alex and Michael were back in the water for the A Finals of the 100m Butterfly. Alex touched in 4th place in a new PB time of 1:03.95, while Michael secured another silver medal, breaking his own Irish Junior Record in the process.

Day 4:

The final day of the Irish Short Course Championships saw more PB swims from the team, and Jericho Balgos qualifying for his first open final at national level.

Livvy McCrea was up first for CoB with a good heat swim in the 200m Freestyle, almost equaling her PB set at the recent Ulster Senior Championships.

Emma Montgomery also saw the 200m Freestyle, breaking her previous PB, again, set 2 weeks ago at Ulster Short Course.

Michael Hewitt finished off a fantastic weekend with yet another PB swim in the Men’s 200m Freestyle, taking 3.2 seconds off his previous best.

Evan Coulter had a busy morning, PBing both his 200m Breaststroke and 50 Backstroke to finish a great weekend of racing.

Jericho Balgos was the last CoB swimmer in the water, taking 0.5 seconds off his 50m Backstroke PB and securing a place in the B Final.

Well done to all of the CoB swimmers who competed over the weekend in what was an amazing conclusion to our 2018 short course season.
