Fantastic performance of the COB swimmers at the Ulster Age Groups! So many great swims!
In the first day of the meeting, the 4×100 Medley Boys relay (including Evan, Jacob, Jericho and Dara) came 3rd in their final! Evan added this bronze to a big bag of silver. He finished second in the U13 200 IM, 2nd in the U13 200 Breaststoke, 2nd in the U13 100 Backstroke, 2nd in the U13 200 Freestyle, 2nd in the U13 100 Butterfly.
Jericho had a great 50 Freestyle, winning gold in the boys U14 age group. He also had a 4th place in the 200 Freestyle and a 5th place in the 100 Butterly! Jacob had 3 super individual events with PBs in all of them including a Division 1 qualifying time in his 200 IM and a 4th place in his 50 Freestyle! Livvy also swam a Division 1 qualifying time in her 200 Backstroke final finishing 4th, and narrowly missed out on another one in her 100 Freestyle final! Dara swam a really solid 100 Butterfly and had a huge PB in his anchor leg for the 4×100 Medley Boys relay to win a bronze medal!
The second day was even better! The session started with a 2nd place finish for our 4×200 Medley Boys relay and 4 really good splits. Evan kicked the finals off with a win in the 200 Backstroke and a 2nd in the U13 100 Breaststroke. Jacob made the U14 100 Breaststroke final and swam a huge PB to finish 3rd and win his first individual medal! Livvy made the 100 Backstroke final with a fantastic heat swim and a huge PB, managing another Division 1 qualifying time in the process! She swam slightly slower in the final but still managed a 5th place finish! She also had a great 50m Freestyle heat and went faster in the final to finish 4th, with a big PB. Dara swam a grueling 1500 Freestyle and gave it everything to finish 4th and set himself a new PB time.
The highlight of the day were the boys 100m Freestyle finals! We had 3 boys in the finals, Evan in the U13 final, Jericho and Jacob both in the U14 final. All 3 boys swam excellent heats, setting PBs to make it to the final. Evan was up first and after a sluggish first 25 managed to turn things around and (almost) negative split his race, winning Gold and breaking the 60 second mark for the first time! It was Jacob and Jericho’s turn next. Jericho made it to 50m first but tired slightly on the second length after a long 2 days of racing. He finished a well earned 3rd setting a new PB! Jacob was hot on his heels the whole race and managed to finish 4th also setting a new personal best and achieving another Division 1 qualifying time!
Well done to everyone for a fantastic weekend of swimming! It was thoroughly enjoyable. The whole Club is grateful to Iain and Steve for attending the meeting and leading the squad, and to all parents who helped officiate!
