Last weekend saw City of Belfast swimmers competing in Ballymena, Sheffield, Dublin and not forgetting at home in Belfast where the Aquasprint team won another tight gala as reported earlier.
Representing their schools at the Ulster Secondary Schools gala on Saturday in Ballymena there were notable successes for Esmee Hall who took gold in the Senior Section in both 100 free and fly, Emma Montgomery who took Gold in the 100m free Junior section and a bronze in the 13 yr old age group for 100m breast, and Fionnuala Murtagh who took silver in Junior 100m backstroke! Olivia McCrea and Ellie Falls were silver medal winners in both Junior free and medley relays.
At the Irish Minor schools gala in Dublin on Sunday Amy Hunter won a gold in the 10 yr old age group 50m breast AND fly! In the 12 year Ellie Falls was 5th in 50m free and Theo 4th in 50m back. Ellie and Olivia McCrea were gold and silver medal winners in the medley and free relays, Amy joining them for gold in the free relay. Theo took home gold in both free and medley relay teams, Rory Maruna taking gold in the Medley relay. Well done also to other CoB swimmers, Dara McKay, Niall Murtagh, Michael Montgomery.
Alex McCrea travelled to Sheffield with the Swim Ulster High Performance team to compete in the Derventio Excel Long Course Meet at Ponds Forge. She reached 3 finals in her Age Group, winning a bronze medal in the 50m free, finishing 5th in 100 fly and 7th in 100m free.
Well done to all the City of Belfast swimmers. There’s another weekend of competition coming up for many of these swimmers at this weekend’s Swim Ulster Spring Qualifying gala in Bangor – the first of the Long Course galas of the season.
