COB Aquasprint swimmers travelled to Ballymena on Saturday for their second fixture of 2018. The team for this gala was slightly depleted due to the school half term holidays.
This is the third season in a row that COB competed against Ballymena SC, who traditionally are very strong at Aquasprint.
After the initial medley relays, COB knew they were up against a strong Ballymena selection, as the relay results were head-to-head, but Ballymena edged home in 3 of the 4 age-groups.
COB swimmers showed great spirit and technique in their individual events, but Ballymena retained a slender lead coming into the final freestyle relays. All the freestyle relays were closely fought contests, but again Ballymena touched home first in 3 of the 4 relays, to seal victory.
Final score: Ballymena 211 COB 189
All our COB swimmers performed superbly on the night, but special mention to Group A boys Ben Heatherington and Rory Kane who swam themselves to exhaustion in 6 races. Alexander Hale continued his good form in the Group B boys, and again our Group B girls Amber Holmes and Amy Cummings-Bell picked up large points tallies for COB. Dulcie Bowden did likewise in the Group C girls events.
Congratulations to the Ballymena swimmers for a strong performance, and thanks for the fantastic hospitality!
The Club is grateful to Stephen McKay for leading the team at the event, and to young Patrick for helping throughout. Also, thanks to Neasa Murnaghan for the organisation of the COB side of the event.
Here is the COB team: defeated, but still with great smiles on!
