City of Belfast swimmers competed in the Ulster LC Championships and Irish SC Championships in 2 consecutive weekends before Christmas.
First was the Ulster Open LC Championships 8-10th December in Bangor. Well done to all our swimmers especially to our medal winners and finalists as follows:
Michael Hewitt : 4th in 50 fly 25.43, 5th in 100 free, silver in 100 fly (Ulster Junior Champion); 4th in 50 free (Ulster Junior Champion)
Alex McCrea: 4th 100 free, 3rd in 50 fly and 50m free, 4th in 100 fly, 5th in 200 free;
Emma Montgomery :6th in 100 free, 7th in 50 free 7th in 200 free;
Florence Tinsley :5th in 100 breast , 4th in 100 back, bronze medal 50back (and Ulster Junior Champion) and 4th place in 200 breast;
Alice Cross qualified for the final of the 200 fly;
Fionnuala Murtagh made the 50 back final;
Women’s 4x100m free relay – bronze (Florence, Livvy McCrea, Emma and Alex)
Also well done Jericho Balgos and Olivia McCrea competing for the first time at this level, and to Thomas Hall and Dan Dougan;
The following weekend saw the Irish Short Course National Championships in Lisburn.
Our Performance squad swimmers Alice, Thomas, Michael, Alex, Emma and Florence all competed
In the A finals Michael finished 7th over all in 200 fly, and Florence 8th in 100 back
Alex McCrea placed 15th overall in the Women’s 100m Freestyle with a time of 59.31, just 0.38 outside her PB.
Michael Hewitt finished 3rd overall in the Men’s 50m Butterfly, and was the fastest junior in the event, breaking the Ulster Junior Record with a time of 24.84 in the heats, smashing his previous PB of 25.6.
Alex was 5th place in 50m fly, again 0.38 off her PB in this event.
Florence Tinsley finished the night off with the Women’s 400m Individual Medley, finishing 2nd in the B Final and 10th place overall with a 9 second improvement on her previous PB.
Alex McCrea finished the Women’s 100m Butterfly in 7th place in a new PB of 1:04.79 just minutes before returning to the pool for the B Final of the Women’s 50m Freestyle. Alex won the B Final in a new PB of 26.71, which would have placed her in 3rd position in the A Final.
Michael Hewitt had another amazing swim securing his second Bronze Medal in the Men’s 100m Butterfly with a new Ulster Junior Record of 55.40, again, his second of the meet.
Florence Tinsley finished the Women’s 200m Backstroke in 7th place in a PB time of 2:22.90 (a 5 second PB). Florence also placed 10th overall in the Women’s 200m Breaststroke on Sunday evening with a new PB time of 2:42.79 (an 8 seconds PB in this event).
Well done to all of our CoB swimmers who took part in a great weekend of racing, securing PB’s finals, medals and records for City of Belfast, and to all of the swimmers who took part.
