The first Aquasprints fixture of the 2018/2019 League saw CoB swimming at home against the Larne SC team on 16 February 2019 at Avoniel Leisure Centre.
Everybody knew that the competition was meant to be fierce! Larne and CoB had already traded waters last year in Larne, when CoB secured a significant victory against such a prestigious team.
This year, Larne claimed the victory by fielding a very strong team that dominated the races in Group A by an ample margin.
CoB, though, did not give up easily and swimmers of Groups B, C, and D proved to be tough competitors. Alexander Hale and Jack Heatherington (Group C Boys) absolutely dominated their events with some fantastic swims in Butterfly and Frontcrawl. The Girls did their part too, with Claire Allen, Alex McMahon, Sara Paternostro, Amber Holmes, Amy Cummings Bell, Chloe and Sophia Young, Oliver McCusker, Thomas Price and Beth Doherty securing important points for the Club.
The final score (CoBL 168, Larne: 232) does not give justice to the fantastic effort of the CoB swimmers. In particular, some ‘heroic’ performances were delivered by the Group A squad: junior swimmers Beatrice Lundy Glenn, Alex Hunter, Leo Dultsev, Alper Kazanci, and Hayden McGoldrick, who are either still swimming with Aquastrokes or recently joined J1, proved all their talent and give CoB great hopes for the future! Moreover, Rory Kane (Group A) swam up with Group B, demonstrating his ability to successfully compete with more senior swimmers. Finally, CoB owes gratitude to Lucas Price and Eva Bagnall, who gave key contributions to the team by covering for absent swimmers with very little notice and great, competent swims!!
CoB congratulates Larne for their success, looks forward to the next fixture, and thanks all the parents for their contribution to the success of the event, and Emma and Linda Montgomery for their crucial help.
