City of Belfast SC Aquasprint Team put in some superb performances on Friday night in the Aurora in Bangor in the annual Aquasprint Finals Night.
COB qualified for the 4 team Section C promotion final against strong squads form Portadown, Ballymena and Lecale. After the league fixtures COB were ranked 4th in Section C, having lost to all 3 opponents during the season. However, league form is no guarantee of final placings and COB swam very strongly to claim 3rd place on the night.
It was great to see our young swimmers competing in the superb Bangor Aurora, and none were overawed by the impressive setting and boisterous crowd. There were strong performances by Amber Holmes, Maisie Bowden and Amy Cummings-Bell as COB dominated the Girls Group A age group swims. Team Captain, Darya Dulseva swam strongly against much bigger opposition in the Group D girls events. Donncha McGurk, Fionntan Murtagh (pictured racing above ), Toby Thompson, Jarleth Meenan and Team Captain, Jake Bowden all picked up large points tallies for COB.
In the end there was little to separate the 4 teams. The Freestyle relays were fast and furious and eventually decided the outcome as Ballymena came out on top, followed by Portadown, COB and then Lecale.
Thanks to Portadown Coach Conor McKeown and his team for organising a great event. Thanks also to Neasa Murnaghan for organising the COB team of helpers. Thank -you to all our parents, swimmers and particularly to our older swimmers, Amy, Livvy, Dara and Fionnuala for helping marshal the young swimmers on the night and of course to Sponsors Forest Feast and Swim Ulster. Finally to our coach Stephen McKay leading the Aquasprint Team all this season, you’ve done superb job!
