The latest Ulster Short Course Championships was a great success for CoB with PBs, Irish Short Course Championship qualifying times, Medals, and an Irish Junior Record!!!
Evan Coulter started the morning session of Day 1 with a PB and a qualifying time for Irish Short Course Championships in the 200m Breaststroke, and minutes later repeated both achievements in the 100m Backstroke.
Emma Montgomery had a great heat swim in the 50m Butterfly, narrowly missing out on a place in the final, while Alex McCrea secured a place in the final and went on to claim a bronze medal.
Cormac McCrudden swam a great 50m freestyle in a new PB time, while Michael Hewitt also claimed a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle.
Evan Coulter and Jericho Balgos both swam PBs and qualified for the Irish Short Course Championships in the 100m Fly, which Michael Hewitt went on to win, setting a new Irish Junior Record in the process.
Emma Montgomery and Alex McCrea both made the final of the 100m freestyle, with Emma securing a qualifying time for Irish Short Course along the way.
Michael Montgomery and Dara McKay both swam huge PBs of 47 seconds and 20 seconds respectively.
The CoB Mixed 200m freestyle relay team (Evan Coulter, Alex McCrea, Emma Montgomery and Michael Hewitt) placed 2nd behind the team from Ards.
In the 200m freestyle relay, our Female Relay Team (Alex McCrea, Livvy McCrea, Elise Smyth and Emma Montgomery) touched in 4th place, while the Male Team (Jericho Balgos, Evan Coulter, Harry Cross and Michael Hewitt) touched in 2nd place.
Day 2 was just as successful as Day 1. Evan Coulter started the day off with a PB swim and an Irish Short Course Championship qualifying time in the 200m Backstroke. Minutes later Evan was back in for the 100m Breaststroke and another PB.
Michael Hewitt won gold in the 50m Fly.
The 50m freestyle was a great event for Livvy McCrea and Emma Montgomery both swimming PBs and achieving their Irish Short Course qualifying times. Emma was Ulster Junior Champion in the 50m free, while Alex McCrea secured a silver medal in the Senior final. The Mixed Medley Team Relay came 3rd behind two teams from Ards to finish off the morning session.
Harry Cross started the afternoon off with a PB in the 100m Individual Medley.
Livvy McCrea swam another 6 second PB and secured her time for the Irish Short Course in the 200m freestyle. Emma Montgomery also swam a PB and qualified for Irish Short Course, finishing 5th in the 200m freestyle final.
Alex McCrea secured a bronze medal in the 100m fly, while Michael Hewitt claimed the silver medal in the 100m freestyle to finish off the individual events.
The final event was the 200m Medley Relay, in which our Female Team came 3rd, behind the 2 teams from Ards.
CoB had a great weekend and are looking forward to the Irish Short Course Championships, which take place shortly.
