Irish Summer Nationals, National Aquatic Centre in Dublin 25-29th July
. There were over 800 swimmers with visiting teams from Canada, UAE, Zimbabwe and the UK.
Seniors Age Group (17&over)
(17), recently returned from competing in Rome with some of the the Irish team, finished off his Ulster Junior record breaking season in impressive form. He qualified for 4 finals at the Nationals in Dublin finishing 4th in 100 fly, 5th in 200 fly and 6th in 50fly.
(16, but competing as a senior) wasn’t seeded to reach finals but did so in 3 of her 5 events finishing 7th in 50 free; 8th in 100 free and 10th in 50 free and just missed a place in 100 fly final.16 yrs age group
reached the final in all 4 of her events and won a fantastic bronze medal in her 100 breast; was 5th in 200 IM; 5th in 100 back; 6th in 200 breast.
(16) reached the final in all 3 of her events and secured a Ulster Regional squad time with a great pb in her 100 free heat in the process. In the finals she finished 8th in 200 free; 10th in 100 free and 9th in 50 free
(16) competed in 100 & 200 breast finishing 15th & 20th overall.14 years age group
(14) had a really great meet with pbs in 5 of his 7 events. Jericho wasn’t seeded to reach finals but swam big pbs in his 100 and 200 back heats on each of the final 2 days of competition to qualify where he took even more time off finishing 4th and 8th respectively. Swimming pbs in his 50 free and 100 fly placed him 16th in both .He was 17thin 100 free and 20th in 200 free.
Jacob Martin (14) competed in 5 events 100&200 breast, 50 and 100 free and 100 back swimming well in all his heats, just missing a final with a 3.6sec pb in his 100 back.
Olivia McCrea (14) was swimming in her first National Div 1 competition competing in 3 events finishing 16th, 19th and 21st in 50 free, 100 and 200 back.
12-13 year age Group
Evan Coulter (13) last but by no means least…had a grueling schedule of 8 events. He swam impressive heats in his 400IM, 100 fly, 100 free 100 & 200 back to qualify for the finals : In the finals he took even more time off to finish as follows: 7th in 100 fly; 5th in 100 free; 6th in 400IM ; 4th in 200 back , and the cherry on the cake was a well deserved bronze in his 100 back!
The boys’ 12-14 relay team of Jericho, Evan, Jacob and Michael Montgomery were placed 7th (second team in Ulster) in both the 400 free and medley relays. The female 15 and over team of Florence, Emma, Amy and Alex were placed 12th in the 400 free relay (2nd Ulster team)
The whole City of Belfast team had a really good 5 days – a LOT of fun as well as impressive swimming. A massive thank you to Head Coach Stephen and our coach Iain who assisted at he weekend, and to all the parents fulfilling their officials roles poolside. Swim Ireland ran another extremely efficient competition – thank you to their team too!
Irish Division 2 National Competition, Limerick 5-8th July
COB only had 1 swimmer able to compete this year in Limerick, but he did not disappoint! Dara McKay (14 age Group) swam 3 events in his one day there on the Saturday of the 4 day event swimming big pbs in all of them. He qualified for the final of the 100 fly and 200 back finishing 9th and 8th respectively and was 6th in his 400 free (no final in this event).
The swimmers take a few weeks deserved break from regular training now- enjoy it! Well done everyone.
