City of Belfast SC’s young Aquasprint swimmers travelled to Downpatrick to swim against Lecale SC on Saturday evening.
The pool at Downpatrick Leisure Centre is unusual in that it is a 5 lane pool rather than a 6 lane pool. This meant that the home team fielded the normal 3 swimmers in the boys races, while COB swam 3 swimmers in the girls races.
Debutants Izem Kazanci and Ella Scott joined the team and had very promising swims in all their events.
The medley relays were very evenly matched, but Lecale showed greater strength and depth in the individual events.
There were some memorable swims from Kate Kane in her Breaststroke and Dulcie Bowden in her Butterfly event. Chloe Young was in inspired form, having earlier picked up 3 medals in the Ulster Schools earlier in the day. Congratulations to Chloe. Darya Dulseva also played her Captains role by picking up a lot of points for COB.
Toby Thompson, Jarleth Meenan and Jake Bowden all gave great performances in their individual events.
After some very close races, Lecale eventually came out winners on a 229 to 188 scoreline.
All our COB swimmers can be very proud of their efforts.
Many thanks to all our parent volunteers, and thanks to Lecale for being such and well orgsanised and gracious hosts. Thanks also to our new Coach, Gavin, who also attended his first Aquasprint.
Next up for COB is the Aquasprint final night on Friday 2nd June in Lurgan.
