***IRISH AGE GROUP DIVISION 2 CHAMPIONSHIPS***
On Thursday 29th June a small group from CoB made the long trip to Limerick to compete in the Irish Age Group Division 2 Championships.
And what a weekend it turned out to be! The weather was poor, the drive was dreary and long but the swimming was certainly fast!
Despite the small number of swimmers (3) I don’t think we have ever had a set of results quite as good. 100% PB’s, including final swims.
The weekend started with Livvy and Theo in the 100 Back and Amy in the 100 Breast. Livvy and Amy both took almost 5 seconds off their best times but narrowly missed out on finals finishing 12th and 14th. Theo took 4 seconds of his old best to clock a 1:11.10 which saw him scrape into the final seeded 9th.
Later that evening he went on to shave another second off this and move from 9th place to a 5th place finish in a fantastic hard fought race!
Saturday morning and Theo was up first with his 400free taking 7 seconds off his old PB. Livvy and Theo both had the 200back next, again both swimming great personal bests with Livvy just missing out on a final and Theo scraping in, this time in 8th place. Livvy finished the morning session off with a fantastic 200IM taking almost 12 seconds off her old PB.
Theo, in a similar performance to Friday evening gritted his teeth (literally) in the last 50 and dropped another second and a half to finish 6th! Another super swim!
Sunday and everyone was tired after a long weekend. Amy swam 2 PB’s. A very gutsy 200 Breast going out far too fast and just managing to hold on! And a great 100 Free chipping 2 seconds off her old best short course time. Well done Amy, that 200 breast looked sore!
Theo also had his 100 free and took more than 2 seconds of his PB to finish off an awesome gala and great year!
Livvy had her 400 free on Sunday morning and clearly has been playing me for a fool all year, as she managed to take almost 15seconds off her best time and finished 13th.
Livvy’s last event was her 100 free. In her heats she took about a second and a half off to qualify 5th for the final. After hanging around for 4 hours in Limerick on a Sunday afternoon (kind of wishing we were home/on our way home) she produced something special! After being seeded 46th going into the gala, she went out hard in the first 50 and held on down the last length taking another second and a half off her seeded time to tie for 1st place in a time of 1:03.8. It was amazing to watch! Well done Livvy!
Thanks again to all the swimmers for their efforts over the weekend and to the parents for organising everything, it made it a very enjoyable meet.
