Everything you need to know about joining Swim Belfast and your first trial session

Children can join our Learn to Swim programme from age 4. We see each child during a free trial session to place them in the appropriate level based on their current water confidence and skills, not just their age.

Yes! We offer a free trial session for all new swimmers. This allows us to find the right starting point and gives you a chance to experience our coaching and facilities before committing.

Your swimmer will join a session with one of our friendly coaches who will observe their current abilities in a relaxed, supportive environment. There's no formal testing — just swimming and having fun while we get to know them.

Just the essentials: swimsuit, goggles, towel, and a swim cap (we can provide one if needed). Arrive 10-15 minutes early so there's plenty of time to get changed and settled before the session starts.

Fees vary by programme. Contact us for more information. All fees include coaching, pool hire, Strength & Conditioning and Sports Science support where applicable.

Learn to Swim sessions take place at Methody School Pool. For competitive squads, training locations are set by the coaching team to ensure access to appropriate facilities. We also have a dedicated S&C facility at Fortius Gym.

Swimmers typically begin competing once they reach Academy 1 level and have achieved the necessary technical proficiency. Our coaches will advise when your child is ready and guide you through entering their first competition.

That's completely normal and our coaches are experienced at putting nervous swimmers at ease. We welcome complete beginners — the trial helps us understand exactly where to start so your child feels confident from day one.

Yes! Parents are welcome to watch from the poolside viewing area. It's a great way to see our coaches in action and get a sense of the club atmosphere.
